Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last week you’ve probably seen an announcement about Facebook changing. Everybody on Facebook and elsewhere is talking about it. A Facebook newsfeed change. Oh my gosh, the sky is falling!

Everyone seems to have advice and suggestions on how to handle it. My number one advice? Don’t panic.

That’s it. Just two words.

Don’t. Panic.

Why do I say that? Simple. If you’ve been on Facebook for longer than the past week, you probably already know that organic reach for Facebook pages kind of sucks. They started moving toward a pay-to-play platform a long time ago, and this is just another step in that direction.

Shortly before this latest news, they also announced that they were trying to get away from clickbait people and posts. People who are trying to scam and “beat” the algorithm. This is just another step in that same plan. Facebook’s plan has always been super transparent and simple. They’re a platform that facilitates social engagement. And the most recent changes are about supporting that.

It’s really that simple. Don’t panic. Post engaging posts and photos and links. Be personable. Be authentic. And don’t be afraid to pay to play.
